Our team consists of Jordan Ion, Alisa Hogg, Katie Blackledge, Florence Prior and Jonah Fasham naming ourselves “Hypernova”. When a hypernova is created the star collapses that quickly the outer parts of the star are unaware of what is happening, therefore we chose our name as we want to have that overwhelming effect felt by the judges.
Spanning age ranges of 9 to 19 our main objective is to help change the perceptions of science, technology, engineering and maths by creating a fun and exciting learning environment for young people to develop an informed view about careers in engineering, Formula 1, science, marketing and technology.
F1 in Schools Ltd is a social enterprise working with committed industry partners to provide an exciting yet challenging educational experience through the magnetic appeal of Formula 1. F1 in Schools is the only truly global educational programme that raises awareness of STEM and Formula 1 among students and school children in every region, in every country, on every continent.
On March 11th and 12th 2019, we competed at the National Finals at the Airbus A380 factory after winning the regional finals in Bolton. At Bolton, we successfully obtained first place in our class, not only taking home the trophy for the fastest car, best engineered car and overall best team, but also the invitation to Chester to take part in the National Finals. On top of this we were each given an unconditional university offer with £3000 off our tuition fees. After that, we proceeded to then take home the trophy for the best verbal presentation at the national level of the competition. This year, as a re-branded team, we will compete in the North West regional finals in hope of going home with another victory.
